Basics
A single simple model drives short drama apps. You watch vertical episodes that are very short. The first few cost nothing. Later ones cost coins or a pass. Most confusion traces back to that split. Start with the five answers below.
What is a short drama app?
It delivers vertical video that is made for phones. Many short episodes make up each series. Out in front are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. Plots tend to favor billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Well liked too are werewolf romances. The format began in China as duanju.
How long does each episode run?
Most run one reel shorts 2025 to two minutes. Shoots in the West often aim for 60 to 100 seconds. A series usually includes 20 to 100 episodes. Married at First Sight has 90 in ReelShort’s listing. The hit Double Life series on ReelShort lists 60. In length, a full series can rival a movie.
Why do episodes stop at cliffhangers?
That is usually the spot where free episodes end. ReelShort states that the first 5 to 15 are usually free. Industry coverage mentions a figure of 8 to 10. The lock tends to hit at peak suspense. That timing is exactly the business model. It is also a leading viewer complaint.
Who owns ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
ReelShort is a Crazy Maple Studio app, and the studio is in Sunnyvale, California. That studio is backed by China’s COL Group. DramaBox is operated by StoryMatrix of Singapore, which belongs to Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama is a Holywater app, and the company was founded in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment took an equity stake in October 2025. In terms of launch dates, ReelShort arrived in 2022, and DramaBox in 2023.
Can I watch in a browser or on TV?
Yes, though there are limits. ReelShort’s website accepts Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok and email logins. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. Only the app offers free unlocks. There is an Apple TV app for My Drama. No verified ReelShort TV app turned up in our search.
Pricing
Questions about money come up most. The prices below are from the US App Store as of September 2026. These prices vary by country, platform and promotion. Always start by checking the pricing screen. Take each number as approximate. The listings show the following.
Is ReelShort actually free?
Partly, and the free part is genuine. Anyone searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” wants the catch. The download costs nothing. You get the opening episodes free. Coins or a VIP pass are needed for the later ones. Free coins come from ads and check-ins.
How do coins work?
Episodes are unlocked with coins, the in-app currency. ReelShort’s blog puts an episode at roughly 60 coins. The smallest pack costs roughly $4.99 for 500 coins. Bonus coins are added to bigger packs. You earn 100+ coins from a 7-day check-in streak. One rewarded ad opens two episodes.
Do the coins expire?
It depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Coins you paid for do not. My Drama does things differently. Its terms say coins are forfeited after 12 months of inactivity. Spend reward coins first and stay active.
How much does a weekly pass cost?
Roughly $19.99 a week is the common US price. It is listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. A few apps show cheaper plans. ShortMax lists a $9.99 tier, and GoodShort’s pricing starts near $5.99. All these passes renew on their own. Four forgotten weeks cost four times as much.
Are there monthly or yearly plans?
Some apps do offer them. ReelShort’s blog puts a yearly plan at around $199.99. The monthly price differs from page to page. So that figure remains unconfirmed. Roughly $36.99 a month is what DramaWave lists. ShortMax lists only weekly passes in the US.
Can I watch for free, without paying?
Yes, provided you are patient. Each series’ free first episodes are the place to start. Watch rewarded ads to unlock more. Keep a daily check-in streak running. On top of that, ReelShort runs official YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion channels. All four combined go furthest.
Managing and Cancelling Subscriptions
Until you stop them, weekly passes keep renewing. Plenty of people do not expect that. Cancelling is quick once you know where. The right place depends on how you paid. Store purchases are cancelled through the store. Website purchases are handled by the company.
Will deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and this is a common mistake. According to Apple, removing an app does not end its subscription. The same goes for uninstalling, according to Google. My Drama’s terms restate that warning. The pass renews until you cancel. Always cancel, then delete.
How do I cancel a subscription on iPhone?
To start, open the Settings app. Tap your name at the top. Then go to Subscriptions. Tap the short drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm your choice. To be on the safe side, act a day before renewal.
How do I cancel on an Android phone?
Begin by opening the Google Play Store app. Go to your Subscriptions list. Pick the short drama app from that list. Tap Cancel, then follow the prompts. Remember that uninstalling does not cancel anything. Recheck the list to confirm the change.
Can I cancel within the app?
Sometimes, though the store route is safer. ShortMax’s terms point to an in-app option under About Subscription. They send store buyers to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. Website buyers should contact the company. Screenshot each and every cancellation.
Why was I billed after a free trial?
The wording of trials can confuse. ShortMax’s “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people, its developer acknowledges. Its terms say passes renew 24 hours before expiry. The same price applies to the renewal. Cancel one day before any trial runs out. Then make sure the store shows it cancelled.
Getting Refunds
Refunds come down to who took your money. Play charges are handled by Google. Apple deals with App Store charges. Website charges go through the companies. No route can guarantee a refund. This table lays out every path.
| Where you bought | Cancelling | Where to seek a refund | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | Apple’s Report a Problem page | Deleting the app won’t cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, later the developer | Uninstalling does not cancel |
| Website | The app company’s account or support | Only the app company | Often non-refundable, as My Drama’s terms state |
How can I get an Apple refund?
Head to Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that was charged. Pick the charge and describe the problem in a few words. A reply from Apple usually comes within 24 to 48 hours. Apple, not the app developer, decides. Also cancel the pass, or it renews.
How do refunds work on Google Play?
Timing is the biggest factor here. Within 48 hours of buying, Google says you may get a refund. Go directly through Google Play to request it. Contact the developer once that window has passed. ReelShort tells users to go to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast if a renewal catches you by surprise.
What about buying on the website?
Those purchases go through the app company. Apple and Google cannot step in there. Under My Drama’s terms, web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires. Its terms give EU and UK users a 14-day withdrawal right. Each other company sets its own rules. Read the terms before paying online.
Is it possible to refund unused coins?
Usually not, and that is in the terms. Coin purchases are final, under My Drama’s terms. ShortMax declines refunds, unless its own fault renders a product unusable. For accidental buys, store requests may help. Until a series hooks you, buy the smallest pack. Mistakes then cost less.
Staying Safe from Look-Alike Apps

Name confusion is rampant here. Misspellings lead to minor unrelated apps. Some sites are copies of well-known brands. A few downloads are unsafe. Your money is protected by using real names. These answers separate real from fake.
Is Real Short an actual app?
No, we could not find one. Real Short is simply ReelShort misspelled. That applies to “real short app”, “realshot”, “reel shot” and probably “shot shorts” too. The real name is a single word. The seller listed on the App Store is New Leaf Publishing. Make sure of that before downloading.
What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV?
These are small, unrelated apps. ReelBox, reached via “reel box” or “reelbox tv”, has 50K+ Android installs. It has no connection to ReelShort or DramaBox. DailyShort, which people often type as “daily short”, has 100K+ installs. GoldShort TV is an Android TV app that has 10K+ installs. Most people searching probably mean GoodShort.
Are ShortTV and ShortMax the same app?
Very likely, though not confirmed. SHORTTV LIMITED in Hong Kong is ShortMax’s legal entity. Visitors to its website are redirected to ShortTV’s site. Both apps launched in September 2023. No official rename announcement turned up. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also turn up unrelated apps.
Can mod APKs and coin generators be trusted?
No, and not one is official. A mod APK is an altered app copy from outside official stores. One DramaBox look-alike calls its download an unofficial modified version. Coin generators, too, are unofficial. You cannot check what they do. Use official stores and websites only.
Why is ReelShort’s Trustpilot rating low?
On Trustpilot, ReelShort’s page shows 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Being charged after cancelling is a common complaint. Weekly auto-renewals are often mentioned. Coin prices and denied refunds are mentioned by others. Any review site reflects those who chose to post. Treat it as a checklist, not a verdict.
